Man arrested for bank robbery in Amherst

Nicholas A. Piraino, 25, of North Tonawanda, has been arrested in connection with a bank robbery that occurred in Amherst last week.

The robbery took place around 3 p.m. Thursday at Citizens Bank, 3180 Sheridan Drive.

According to Amherst police, a subject entered the bank, presented a note demanding money and took an undetermined amount of cash. The individual then exited the bank in an unknown direction.

After investigation, Amherst police detectives, with the assistance of North Tonawanda police and the Erie County Probation Department, arrested Piraino.

He is charged with robbery and grand larceny and was arraigned on Saturday in Amherst Town Court.
