Flames are unbeaten through four

Williamsville East’s boys golf team handed Williamsville North its first loss of the season after recording a 249-268 victory on Sept. 11 at Glen Oak Golf Course.

North is the defending ECIC Large School North champion. East freshman Kevin Zhao shot 37 to earn medalist honors.

Freshmen Dawson Miller and Mike Stellrecht added a 39 and 40, respectively.

Senior co-captains Jacob Belote and Jeff Cummins both shot 38 to lead the Spartans.

Freshman Cal Deck added a 42.

East improved to 4-0 with a 247-268 road win over Sweet Home on Wednesday at Brighton Golf Course. Stellrecht was the medalist with a 39.

The previous week, East downed Clarence, 258-271, on Sept. 5 at Brookfield Country Club.

Freshman Zach Jacobson shot a 38 to earn his second medalist honor of the year. Zhao shot 39 and Jacob Nostrant added a 42.

“It was a great match to start off the year, especially in the heat,” East coach Thomas Rajczak said. “The boys fought hard and earned a well-deserved win.”

Rajczak said the freshmen have been playing really well so far this year. Rajczak said there are 11 East golfers ranked in the top 80 in the ECIC.

North closed out the week with a 259-277 loss to Clarence on Wednesday at Brookfield Country Club. Cummins and freshman Gabe Prohaska each shot 43 to lead the Spartans.

North (3-2) faced Williamsville East on Tuesday at Transit Valley Country Club, but information about the game was unavailable before The Bee went to press.
