Hundreds intoxicated at off-campus party

Amherst police officers encountered hundreds of intoxicated youths roaming an off-campus student housing complex known as The Villas-West, near the University at Buffalo, last week.

On Sept. 3, which was Labor Day, the Amherst Police Department received numerous complaints of a large “out-of-control” outdoor party at the complex.

With the assistance of the University at Buffalo Police Department, officers attempted to disperse the group, police said.

At some point, it was reported that one of the partygoers had fallen off the roof of one of the apartments. The victim, a 20-year-old male from Port Chester, New York, was located by officers and was initially unresponsive.

According to police, the victim was treated and evaluated by both North Bailey firefighters and Twin City ambulance personnel. He was then transported to Erie County Medical Center for treatment of what was described at the time as serious injuries.

He has since been released from the hospital, police said.

The situation was stabilized after about an hour of heavy police presence. According to police, Villas management was also made aware of the situation.
