Bee Heard

.Trustee Deborah Rogers’ quotes in The Buffalo News article last week were very disappointing. She should be stressing the positives and not the negatives. Mayor DeLano’s letters to the editor in The Bee and The Buffalo News were great. As opposed to that article, they were factual, informative and positive. I’m glad he responded in the way he did; that’s good leadership.

.As a regular patron of the Eggertsville-Snyder Branch Library, I’m wondering when the Town of Amherst is planing on repairing the sunken storm sewer in the center of the parking lot at the library. At the present time, a piece of plywood, some 2x4s and orange cones are covering the sewer, which causes parking issues. These have been there for several months. Let’s get the problem fixed before there are vehicular accidents.

.Expressway speeds have taken over Belvoir Road and MacArthur Drive, which have a 30 mph speed limit. As a shortcut between Sheridan and Maple, drivers are using this, and Amherst Police cannot keep up with speeders. Portable speed bumps are needed.

.I don’t understand why some residents think it’s valid to complain about construction cones along Sheridan Drive, which are used for construction worker safety. Cut them a break; give them some room.

.A question for the Town of Amherst: Nothing against lawn mowing services, but why are they allowed to mow lawns as early at 8 a.m.? They should have some sort of noise ordinance that the rest of us must abide by when we want to mow our lawns. In fact, many of these lawn mowing teams wear noise canceling headphones, but those of us with our windows upon the morning have no such devices. We abide by not mowing our lawns until 10 a.m., so why are these services mowing other people’s lawns at 8 a.m.?

.Do any of the New York State or Erie County politicians notice the condition of the roads? It’s almost the end of summer, and roads are still a mess. Oh, I forgot, they are too busy padding their resumes to run for higher office. The second highest taxed state in the country, and this is what we get.

.Is anyone concerned over the $1.2 million blatant tax breaks to Carl Montante’s Uniland Development Corporation? I call on New York State Comptroller Tom DiNapoli to audit the Amherst Industrial Development Agency and recommend the removal of the AIDA board for lack of fiduciary responsibility to the people of the Town of Amherst.

.Whatever happened to finishing Maple Road in the spring of 2018? We were promised Maple Road would be finished in the spring of 2018. Fall 2017 they would do the first half of Maple Road, and the spring of 2018 they would do the other half of Maple Road. Sheridan Drive is finished, and Maple Road just got patched. Here we go waiting again. Maple Road looks awful.

.Could someone please cut the grass at the corner of Niagara Falls Boulevard and Tonawanda Creek Road? When you come in from Niagara County and pass into Amherst, isn’t it a lovely site to see grass that is way over the top of your knees?
