GET GARDENING — For anyone who is interested in learning more about gardening, Town and Country Garden Club will hold its next meeting at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, June 14, at Transit Middle School, 8730 Transit Road, East Amherst. The program will include designing a container garden.

The Amherst Garden Club will meet at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday, June 27, at St. John’s Lutheran Church, 6540 Main St., Amherst. The program is titled “Life in the Hive.” The Rev. Ryszard S. Biernat will offer the presentation and discuss the life of bees and how honey is made. Rev. Biernat is secretary to Bishop Richard J. Malone.

Additionally, on page three of this week’s edition, readers can find details of the upcoming Town of Amherst and Village of Williamsville garden walks.

FREE CONCERT — Blocher Homes will offer a free concert by Mark Mazur and The Little Big Band from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, June 20, outside its facility, 135 Evans St., Williamsville.

The music will include everything from jazz to Top 40 songs and big band tunes. The event will include free refreshments, including hot dogs, lemonade and popcorn. Tours of Blocher Homes will also be available.

The event will be held rain or shine, and guests are invited to bring their own lawn chairs.

APPLICATIONS AVAILABLE — The Town of Amherst Arts and Culture in Public Places Board now has applications available for funding requests.

The applications are available in the Town Councilmembers’ Office, 5583 Main St., Williamsville. Applications are also available online at www.amherst.ny.us. To be considered, the applications must be either submitted or postmarked no later than Monday, June 25.

Each applicant’s main operations must be located within the town limits, the activities must be open to participants in the town, and the organization’s board must include primarily Amherst residents. Additionally, the applicant must be a nonprofit and provide education programs or services to the town.

SPECIAL CEREMONY — The Town of Amherst Veterans Committee has scheduled the seventh memorial recognition of veterans’ names to be held at 3 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 19, at the Amherst Veterans Memorial in the Amherst State Park, 400 Mill St.

Anyone interested in nominating a veteran for inclusion on the wall may contact Dawn Cerra by email at dcerra@amherst.ny.us or 631-7013. Also, applications may be downloaded directly at www.amherst.ny.us.

The deadline for inclusion of names for the ceremony is Friday, July 6.
