Lady Spartans falter in quarters

Williamsville North’s girls basketball team’s season came to an end with a 45-18 road loss to top-seed Orchard Park in the Section VI Class AA quarterfinals Feb. 27.

North coach Bill Shaw thought if his team held Orchard Park’s offense to in the 40s, they could be in the game, but they shot 16 percent from the floor, including five wide-open layups in the first half.

The Lady Spartans trailed 12-4 after one and 18-8 at halftime.

North had a rough second half as they were outscored 28-10.

No North player reached double digits. Audrey Craffey tallied eight points. Courtney Herlan and Michaela Reimers each scored four points, and Jada Ghee tallied six steals.

North finished with a 5-16 record.

With only losing one senior and 18 JV and varsity players playing AAU, the future looks bright, Shaw said.
