Gaelic League’s annual Irish party set for March 9

The Amherst Gaelic League will host the 46th annual Irish American Appreciation Party to benefit the AGL Charity Fund from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday, March 9, at Salvatore’s Italian Gardens, 6461 Transit Road, Depew.

The party will honor the AGL’s 2018 Irish Person of the Year, Margaret “Peg” Overdorf.

She is the executive director of the Valley Community Association, having dedicated 40 years to the organization and surrounding community. According to AGL officials, Overdorf has also spearheaded the construction of Buffalo River Fest Park and Mutual Riverfront Park along the Buffalo River.

In addition, she is the founder of the renowned “Old Neighborhood” St. Patrick’s Day Parade in Buffalo and is responsible for developing the Buffalo River Fest, a regional event that focuses on the restoration and beautification of the Buffalo Riverfront.

Overdorf has received numerous awards, including the Friends of the Buffalo River Award, the Leadership Buffalo Service Award and the Greater South Buffalo Chamber of Commerce Community Service Award.

The AGL Charity Fund has supported numerous local Irish cultural causes and community organizations throughout the years, including the WNY Famine Committee and Irish Network Buffalo.

Tickets to the AGL’s event are $50 and are available only by presale. Admission includes open bar, hors d’oeuvres and live entertainment by Irish folk band Crikwater, as well as the Gordon Highlanders Pipe Band and Irish dance performances by Clann Na Cara Irish dancers.
