East girls cross-country team wins first league meet

Williamsville East’s girls cross-country team posted its first league win of the season, beating West Seneca East, 27-35, on the road Oct. 3.

Senior co-captain Veronica Zimmerman was the overall winner, in 21 minutes, 18 seconds and was followed closely by seventh grader Jesse Root, who took second overall in 21:28.

Junior co-captain Jillian Myers was fifth overall (23:42), followed by freshman Arianna Kramer (24:50), sophomore Ginger Wang (25:07), senior Connie An (27:16), sophomores Jenny Wang (27:44) and Nina Coscia (30:07), and freshman Kathleen Greenman (32:27).

The Lady Flames placed third at Friday’s Town of Amherst Championships at Grover Cleveland Golf Course, and were led by top-20 finishes from Zimmerman (fifth, 20:36); Root (sixth, 20:47); Myers (17th, 21:21) and Kramer (20th, 22.13).

Rounding out finishers for East were Wang (23:58), Coscia (27:48), and freshman Kathleen Greenman (season-best 27.16)

East competed at Sweet Home in a tri-meet with Pioneer Tuesday, but information about the meet was unavailable before The Bee went to press. They compete in Saturday’s Alden Bulldog Stampede at Alden High School.
