School taxes due by Oct. 16

Town Clerk Marjory Jaeger is reminding Amherst residents that school taxes are due on or before Monday, Oct. 16, and is providing alternative methods and extended hours for collection.

Jaeger said that there are several options to pay school taxes: by mail, in person, online and at select M&T Bank branches.

The town clerk said full payments can be made by check or money order at the participating M&T Bank locations. Taxpayers should check the back of their tax bills for the specific locations.

Online payment by e-check, credit and debit cards, can be made at www.amherst.ny.us. Service fees apply to online payments.

In person, the clerk’s office accepts cash, checks, money orders, credit and debit cards. Credit and debit cards also have a service fee.

Mailed payments must be postmarked on or before Oct. 16 to avoid penalties.

“Providing several payment methods and additional hours for collection are just a couple of ways I am making the clerk’s office user-friendly,” Jaeger said. “It gives our residents an opportunity to pay their taxes outside of traditional methods and office hours.”

Office hours are 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 11, and Thursday, Oct. 12. Extended office hours are available from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Friday, Oct. 13, and Monday, Oct. 16.

The Town Clerk’s Office is located in Amherst Town Hall, 5583 Main St., Williamsville.
