Rev. John P. Bucki, teacher, pastor

Bucki Bucki The Rev. John P. Bucki, 67, of Amherst, died Saturday, Sept. 2, 2017.

Rev. Bucki was born on Jan. 12, 1950, in Buffalo. After graduating from Canisius High School, he entered the Society of Jesus on Aug. 25, 1968. He was a graduate of Fordham University and of the Jesuit School of Theology in Berkeley, California. He was ordained a priest in June 1979.

Rev. Bucki taught mathematics at Regis High School and at Xavier High School, both in New York City, and at McQuaid Jesuit High School in Rochester. He served 12 years as an associate pastor of St. Francis Xavier Church in Manhattan.

Starting in 2001, Rev. Bucki became engaged in campus ministry, first at Canisius College for 11 years and then at LeMoyne College since 2012. He developed outreach programs of service to the community at both schools.

Rev. Bucki is survived by two siblings, Carl Bucki and Barbara Ohm.

Calling hours will be held from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday, Sept. 15, at the Panasci Family Chapel at LeMoyne College. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at noon Saturday, Sept. 16.
