South girls golf team seeking players

The Williamsville South varsity girls golf team will begin the 2017 fall season with a practice at 3 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 17 at Audubon Golf Course, 500 Maple Road.

Players should meet at the pavilion near the clubhouse. The team consists of girls from Williamsville South High School, and seventh and eighth-graders from Mill Middle School.

The team will compete in the Section VI league along with Williamsville East, Williamsville North, Lancaster, Clarence and Depew. All student-athletes from beginner to advanced ability are eligible to try out.

Steve Delisanti, entering his 12th year as South’s coach, will work with all athletes on golf fundamentals, etiquette and rules of the game with the goal of improving skills to the level where the player can be competitive.

“I think the great thing about this program is that all players will get to participate and learn this great game,” Delisanti said. “Year after year our veteran players make new players feel right at home. It’s a great team centered atmosphere. If a player shows up every day and puts in a great effort, they will improve and have fun along the way.”

Home matches are played at Audubon Golf Course. The team also uses the Audubon Par-3 course and the driving range for practice.

Interested players should email Delisanti at soniadeli@aol.com. Eligibility information can be obtained by calling the district athletic department at 626-8037 or by calling your school’s main office.
