Fundraiser to benefit Sisters of St. Francis

The Sisters of St. Francis of the Neumann Communities will host its second annual “Burgers, Brews and Blues” summer fundraiser, featuring a Buffalo Music Hall of Fame inductee as the evening’s vocalist.

The event will be held at 5 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 15, at St. Mary of the Angels, 201 Reist St., Williamsville.

According to a press release, event proceeds will benefit the sisters’ ministries throughout Western New York. The evening’s activities begin with a social hour at 5 p.m., followed by dinner at 6 p.m. and live music featuring Janice Mitchell, a jazz and blues vocalist who is also a member of the Buffalo Music Hall of Fame.

The release stated that Mitchell will be accompanied by the Jim Beishline Trio, with Jim Beishline on piano, from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m.

According to the release, Mitchell’s musical background includes five world tours as a backup singer for Ray Charles. She has also performed live as a backup vocalist for Stevie Wonder.

Additionally, the release said Beishline has accompanied nationally known pop and blues artists, including Aretha Franklin, Chuck Berry and Muddy Waters when they performed in Buffalo, and he has also played piano for numerous local recording artists.

In the late 1990s, Beishline and Mitchell became musical partners and continue to give their personal and unique interpretations to jazz and blues standards for local concerts and jazz festivals.

Beer at the event will be provided by 12 Gates Brewing Company.

Advance sale tickets for Burgers, Brews and Blues are $50 per person. For more information, contact Cindy Munschauer by email at cmunschauer@sosf.org or call 632-2155, ext. 687.
