DiPirro to remain CEO
by KEATON T. DEPRIEST Associate Editor

Anthony Baynes Jr. will become president of the Amherst Chamber of Commerce on Sept. 5, taking over the role from the organization’s current president, Colleen DiPirro.

DiPirro, who has led the organization for 35 years, will remain as CEO. Baynes is currently chief of staff to state Sen. Patrick Gallivan.

“We are very excited to announce that A.J. is joining the Amherst Chamber in a leadership capacity, and he and Colleen will make a formidable leadership team,” Earl V. Wells III, Amherst Chamber board chairman, said in the release.

DiPirro said stepping away from the presidency of the Chamber was due to a desire to “spend more time with my family” and lightening her workload.

“Finding someone with the skills and talents of A.J. Baynes makes this much easier for me to do as the Amherst Chamber of Commerce has been such a big part of my life,” DiPirro said.

She added that she will work “side by side with Baynes” until the end of January.

“During that time, you will have many opportunities to acquaint yourself with him and get motivated by all the attributes he brings to the organization,” DiPirro said. “I will continue to serve in an advisory role to the Chamber and our members. So, join me in welcoming A.J. as we celebrate the past and look forward to the future.”

Baynes said he is excited about the opportunity to become a leader of the Amherst Chamber.

“I want to personally thank Sen. Gallivan for the opportunity he provided me,” Baynes added.
