Wittenberg earns gold on floor at Big Ten Championships

Former Greater Buffalo Gymnastics Center gymnast Alex Wittenberg became the seventh gymnast in the history of the University of Minnesota men’s gymnastics team to earn gold on floor exercise at the recently held Big Ten Conference Championships in Champaign, Illinois.

Wittenberg recorded a score of 14.500.

The Big Ten Conference is composed of seven teams, of which six teams are ranked in the top 10 nationally.

Wittenberg describes the first night of competition as being a relatively “tough pill to swallow” as the team placed third. But Wittenberg, along with eight of his teammates, was able to qualify for the event finals. Wittenberg is a team captain, along with senior Zach Liebler and junior Joel Gagnon.

Wittenberg and the team look to continue its success as they travel to the National Championships April 19 in West Point.
