Estella H. Santa Maria, active in community

Santa Maria Santa Maria Estella H. Santa Maria (nee D’Addario), 100, formerly of Buffalo, died Tuesday, July 22, 2014.

Mrs. Santa Maria helped build airplanes for the Curtiss Wright Corp. during World War II. She also was an estimator of glass sales and service for the Sterling Glass Co. in Buffalo and worked in the Tax Assessor’s Office in West Seneca.

She was a parishioner at Fourteen Holy Helpers Church in West Seneca.

Mrs. Santa Maria was also active in her community, serving as president of the Aquila Society and a member and president of the Sister Elizabeth Kenny Foundation of Western New York. Her community involvement continued when she moved to Florida and was on the board for the Biscayne Condominium.

To her family, she was known for her baking, her homemade desserts and dancing.

Mrs. Santa Maria is survived by two sons, Benedict and Joseph J.; two daughters, Carol Vasquez and Nancy Cumagun; 12 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and one sister, Elsie DeFilippi. She was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph S.; one daughter, Jacqueline Clyburn Roth; and one son, Nicholas.

A Mass of Christian Burial was held Aug. 2 at St. Gregory the Great Church.
