East wrestling defeats Amherst, improves to 3-0

The Williamsville East wrestling team downed Amherst, 48-18, last Wednesday at Amherst to improve to 3-0.

The Flames recorded four pins — Sam Beichner over Stephan Ciocca in 2 minutes, 20 seconds at 125 pounds; Andrew Dieckman over Max Legierski in 5:29 at 130; Will Bickelmann over Branden Anderson in 5:50 at 171; and M.P. Joseph over Tim Joseph in 1:13 at 189.

East scored three wins by technical fall — Dylan Cohen over Aleks Hickey, 15-0, at 119; Ben Mikac over Drew Smith, 19-3, at 135; and Jacob Beichner over Nick Celano, 17-1, at 152.

East’s Steve Meyer beat Jon Kapus, 7-4, at 160. Kyle Kieffer earned a forfeit at 112.

Cohen, Sam Beichner, Mikac and Joseph all improved to 7-0 on the season. Jake Beichner is 6-1.

East, ranked fifth in Western New York large schools, will compete in the Sweet Home Tournament Dec. 29-30.

Amherst’s points came from Eric Cheston (forfeit at 103); Matt Wilhelm (8-3 win over Kyle Matthews at 140); Sean Cunningham (pinned Jeff Wilson in 45 seconds at 145); and Brian Rice (defeated Will Kelly, 4-2, at 215).

Amherst then lost a close non-league dual at St. Joe’s Thursday, 31-27. Amherst forfeited 103 and 112.

The Tigers scored wins by Legierski (4-2 in sudden victory over Charlie Cyran at 130); Pat Donovan (10-6 over Corey Allen at 135); Cunningham (pinned Sam Braun in 5:12 at 145); Kapus (pinned Chris Crocker in 3:22 at 160); Anderson (defeated Mike Duguay, 9-3, at 171); and Rice (pinned James McClary in 3:06 at 215).
