East JV hockey cannot answer Clarence

Williamsville East’s JV hockey team was unable to answer three third period goals and fell to Clarence, 5-2, Sunday.

Clarence scored two in the first, which was matched by two from East in the second - Austin Bianchi (Marc Bezbatchenko, Justin Goodman) and Josh Sadkin (Ryan Shaw, Derek Scolnick).

Penalties and turnovers led to Clarence’s take-over of the third.

Brian Ruff had two goals and an assist for Clarence.

East plays St. Joe’s Maroon at 5 p.m. Saturday.

Bobby Finley took a pass on a 2-on-one from captain Marc Bezbatchenko to open the scoring with Austin Bianchi getting the assist. Daniel Lumadue (Joe Bengart) and Bezbatchenko (Justin Goodman) tallied in the third for insurance.

Lancaster 3, Williamsville East

Lancaster scored the go-ahead goal in the second period and held off a late challenge to defeat Williamsville East 3-1 in JV hockey action last weekend in Depew.

After a scoreless opening period, East found the net on a nice feed from Marc Bezbatchenko to Justin Goodman standing in front of the defenseless Redskin netminder.

Lancaster soon took advantage of a 5-on-3 power play to even things up, before the winning goal late in the second. An empty-net goal as time ran out finished the scoring.
