Jurek Post pushes winning streak to six games

Jurek Post 1672 (11-1-1) extended its Northern Division of Erie County American Legion Baseball (19 and under) winning streak to six games Sunday by shutting out LaSalle Post, 10-0.

Kevin Hughes, Zack Lauricella and Ed Kohout combined for a one hitter, while Marcus Grazen was 2-for-3 with two runs scored and two RBIs. Lauricella also went 2-for-3, while Hughes was 2-for-2 with two RBIs.

Jurek Post 1672 thumped Kensington Post on June 28, 15-3, as Matt Goraj went the distance with four strikeouts and just three hits allowed. Wes Stark and Hughes each went 3-for-3 at the plate.

Lamm Post 8

Jurek Post 1672 swept Lamm Post in a doubleheader at the Amherst Pepsi Center June 29, beginning with an 11-8 victory with first place on the line.

Kohout overpowered Lamm, throwing five innings of three-hit ball with seven strikeouts. Lauricella came in to finish and got the save as Lamm tried to rally in the final two innings.

Hughes went 2-for-3 with a walk and two RBIs, while Eric Stolzenberg made a good stab of a ground ball with the bases loaded in the final innings to help preserve the victory.

The second game of the doubleheader was rain shortened, with Hughes going five innings for the victory and giving up only three hits.

Joe Salvatore went 1-for-1 with a walk and two runs scored, while Ron Canestro went 1-for-2 with two runs scored.

Kensington Post 3

Matt Goraj went the distance with four strikeouts and allowed only three hits as Jurek Post defeated Kensington Post, 15-3. Wes Stark and Hughes each went 3- for- 3.

Sikora Post 4

Jurek Post 1672 beat Sikora Post at Rojek Field last Wednesday, 11-4, in the first game of a rare different-field, different-opponent doubleheader.

Salvatore recorded his first victory of the year after pitching six strong innings, while Grazen, Canestro and Stark paced the attack with two hits each. Canestro, Stark and Hughes had two RBIs apiece.

Brounschidle Post 1

Jurek Post 1672 defeated Brounschidle Post in the second game of last Wednesday's doubleheader, 5-1, to avenge Jurek's only loss of the year to date.

Goraj threw a complete game three-hitter for his third win of the season, while Austin Benschadle went 2-for-3 with two RBIs. Lauricella had a double and two RBIs.

Jurek scored all five runs in the third inning on two hits, three walks and an error.

Information about Monday night's game against Dolan Post was not available at press time. The regular season will end with a doubleheader tonight in Niagara Falls, Ont., a game against Tonawanda at the Pepsi Center at noon Saturday, and at Cazenovia Park against Kensington Monday.
