UB's Center for the Arts offering theatrical program

The University at Buffalo Center for the Arts has scheduled Explore the Arts, its theatrical arts summer program for children entering grades 5-8, from Monday, July 7, through Friday, July 11.

Explore the Arts aims to develop technical and performance skills in a nurturing and integrated environment where children can participate in a shared creative experience, ultimately expanding their knowledge of and interest in theatrical arts.

The program will consist of daily workshops covering both technical theater and performance, including such topics as scenery design and construction, creative lighting and sound operation, costume design, basic acting and dance.

Workshops are taught by UB professional staff, faculty and area professionals.

No previous theatrical instruction or experience is required, as workshops will be taught at a level appropriate for the participants.

Because the workshops are process-oriented, they do not culminate in a dramatic production. Parents and guardians will be invited to a reception on the final day of the program.

The cost is $300, which includes lunches, snacks and materials. Registration is required, and the deadline is Friday, June 20. For more information, call 645-6754, ext. 1388 or visit the Web site at www. ubcfa. org.
