Shirley F. Sheffer, retired from New York State Department of Labor

Shirley Findinger Sheffer, 88, of Williamsville, died on Sunday, Jan. 27, 2008 at Canterbury Woods in Amherst.

A lifelong resident of Williamsville, she was valedictorian of her Williamsville High School class of 1937 and graduated with honors from Houghton College in 1941.

She taught math and English in the Williamsville schools before working for the New York State Department of Labor for 20 years. While working at the Labor Department, she was known for her daily morning television show "Employment File" on a local television station.

Mrs. Sheffer was also choir director of Randall Baptist Church in Williamsville and the Buffalo Christian Center. At Randall Baptist, she also chaired the Board of Christian Education, and the music committee and directed Vacation Bible School.

Mrs. Sheffer is survived by two sons, Samuel A., of Charleston, S.C., and John B. of Ocala, Fla.; one daughter, Deborah Alcott, of Fillmore, N.Y.; five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Services will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Feb. 2 at Randall Baptist Church, 6301 Main St., Williamsville.
