Eight hour Town Board meeting pays overtime

It was probably one of the longest Amherst Town Board meetings on record.

The meeting started at 7:30 p.m. Monday, March 20 and ended at 2:45 a.m. Tuesday, March 21.

It took nearly eight hours to do the town's business. And for three of those hours, the town will shell out $83.67 in overtime to one building maintenance worker who was required to stay until the meeting was over. His normal shift ends at midnight but he stayed until nearly 3 a.m. to clean up, make sure no one was left in the building and lock the doors.

His normal pay is $18.59 an hour. When he hits overtime, his hourly wage goes to $27.89 an hour, as per his union contract.
