Maynard C. ‘Bud’ Goettel, retired Getzville fire chief

Goettel Goettel Maynard C. “Bud” Goettel, 83, a retired fire chief of the Getzville Volunteer Fire Department, died unexpectedly Wednesday, Dec. 21, 2005, in his Amherst home.

Born in Central Square, N.Y., Mr. Goettel served in the Seabees division of the Navy during World War II and the Korean War.

He worked for over 25 years at Dunlop Tire, retiring in 1977.

Mr. Goettel was a member of the American Legion and the George F. Lamm Post.

He served as president of the Exempt Fireman’s Association from 1993-95. He was also a member of the Amherst Fire Council for 42 years.

Mr. Goettel was an active volunteer in the community and a parishioner at St. Paul’s United Church of Christ in Wendelville, N. Y.

Mr. Goettel is survived by his wife of 57 years, Patricia Goettel of Amherst; a daughter, Fern Updegraff of Charleston, S.C.; two sisters, Jackie Willmer and Fern Willdrick of Central Square; and two grandchildren.

A service was held Saturday, Dec. 24 at St. Paul’s United Church of Christ. Arrangements were made by Amigone Funeral Home.
