by KEATON T. DEPRIEST Associate Editor

Several events are scheduled to be held this week in recognition of Veterans Day, on Saturday, Nov. 11.

At 1 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 9, Veterans Affairs Medical Hospital will offer a veterans event in the Freedom Hall on the third floor of the facility, 3495 Bailey Ave., Buffalo. Further details about the event are available by calling 862-8672.

The American Legion George F. Lamm Post 622 will hold its annual ceremony at 11 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 11, at Williamsville Cemetery, 5402 Main St., Williamsville.

Members will march behind the Color Guard and into the cemetery at the American Legion Monument. The ceremony will include a short address from the post commander.

The cemetery was first used for burials in 1810 and was formalized as a cemetery in 1824. The event is also sponsored by the Town of Amherst and Village of Williamsville.

Also at 11 a.m. Saturday, Trinity Old Lutheran Church, 3445 Sheridan Drive, will offer a service — open to all religious denominations and faiths — to honor veterans.

All veterans are welcome to participate in the opening processional, the flag ceremony and closing recessional. Those wishing to participate in the service are asked to arrive at 10:45 a.m.

The church’s bulletin also includes an honor list of surviving veterans, as well as a memorial list of deceased veterans. Attendees are invited to provide the following information for the lists: name, branch, unit and dates of service.

The information should be sent to: Trinity Old Lutheran Church, Veterans Service, 3445 Sheridan Drive, Amherst, NY 14226.

Additionally on Veterans Day, a Masonic wreath-laying ceremony will be held at 11:30 a.m. Saturday at Sweet Home Masonic Lodge, 641 Sweet Home Road. Doors open at 11 a.m. The ceremony will conclude at 12:30 p.m.
