North wins ‘Pink the Pool’ meet

Williamsville North’s girls swim team evened its record at 4-4 with a 76-26 home win over West Seneca West Oct. 3, but more importantly, the team did its best to raise money for breast cancer awareness.

North coach Doug Cassidy said the team raised $1,800 in a week by getting their pink swim caps signed. Cassidy’s father, Lloyd, former North boys and girls swim coach, then matched the donation, and with other donations, $3,800 was raised for Roswell Park Cancer Institute.

North dominated in the pool. Monica McKie won the 200-yard individual medley in 2 minutes, 24.48 seconds — almost a three-second best time — and the 100 back in 1:06.22. Also winning events were Ellia Yang (100 fly, 1:09.34, best time by almost two seconds), Megan Doner (100 free, 1:00.81) and Olivia Klein (500 free, 5:39.10).

Elizabeth Kelley dropped a full second in the 100 back in 1:13.56 and swam a best split time in the medley relay in 33.33.

North swam at Hamburg Tuesday, but information about the meet was unavailable before The Bee went to press.
