Peter P. Poth, CPA, president of Delaware North


Poth Poth Peter P. Poth, 88, of Williamsville, died Thursday, Sept. 7, 2017.

Mr. Poth was born on Feb. 12, 1929, in Buffalo. He graduated from St. Thomas Aquinas School in 1942. He attended both St. Joseph’s Collegiate Institute and Canisius College as a result of academic scholarships.

Mr. Poth received his Bachelor of Business Administration degree cum laude and was also awarded a certificate from the New York State Society of CPAs as the Outstanding Accounting Major in the Canisius College Class of 1950.

He received his certified public accountant certificate in 1953 and became a partner in the Buffalo accounting firm of Graef, Cutting and Coit in 1960. Upon the merger of that firm into KPMG Peat Marwick in 1963, he became the managing partner of the Buffalo office in 1969.

Upon retirement from KPMG Peat Marwick, he joined Delaware North Companies, Inc. as group vice president and chief financial officer. He subsequently became president of Delaware North, and at the time of his retirement was serving as vice chairman.

In civic endeavors, Mr. Poth served as treasurer of the Buffalo Junior Chamber of Commerce and National Convention of the U.S. Junior Chamber. He was also director and treasurer of the Buffalo Chamber of Commerce.

He served as chairman of the D’Youville College President’s Council and the D’Youville Board of Trustees. He was also a member of the Country Club of Buffalo.

Mr. Poth is survived by his wife, Marie (nee Orsolits), and one grandchild. He was preceded in death by one child, Luca Poth.

A Mass of Christian Burial was held on Sept. 11 from St. Joseph’s University Church. Arrangements were made by the Amigone Funeral Home Inc. Memorials may be made to the Target Center Foundation, 965 Massachusetts Ave., No. 343, Cambridge, MA 02139.
