Old Home Days continues through July 14

The Old Home Days celebration will continue through Friday, July 14, at Island Park, behind the Amherst Municipal Building, 5583 Main St., Williamsville.

The Old Home Days Committee is reminding festival attendees of its safety policies enacted a few years ago to enhance the family-friendly atmosphere.

The policies include:

• A ban on backpacks.

• A 10 p.m. end time for rides, which will be followed by a police “push” and the closing of the beer tent at 11 p.m.

The events on Wednesday, July 12, feature the annual bicycle rodeo from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., allowing youths up to 12 years old to participate. The rodeo will be held in the parking lot next to the Municipal Building and is sponsored by the Amherst Police Department and University Pediatric Dentistry.

From noon to 4 p.m. beginning Wednesday, and on each remaining day of the event, bracelets, allowing access to all midway rides, cost $20 per person.

Also on Wednesday, youth games offered by the Amherst Recreation Department will be held from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. under a tent inside the park, with face painting by Amherst Youth Engaged in Services volunteers provided from 1 to 3 p.m.

At 6 p.m., Rince Na Tiarna national champion Irish dancers will perform, followed by Ardan Rochez Academy of Irish Dance at 7 p.m. and Barnstorm Country Band from 8 to 10 p.m., all of which will be at the band shell. Music in the beer tent will be performed by Joyryde.

On Thursday, July 13, a chicken dinner, offered from 4 to 9 p.m., will be sponsored by Christian Central Academy. Additionally, Amherst Youth Engaged in Services will guide children through summer craft programs from 1 to 3 p.m.

Tom Stahl and the Dangerfields, sponsored by the Youth and Recreation Department, will be performing from 7:30 to 8:30 p.m. in the band shell, with beer tent entertainment provided by Hit N Run from 7 to 10:30 p.m.

For the final full day of festivities on Friday, July 14, bracelets for midway rides will be available during the afternoon until 4 p.m. and in the evening from 5 to 10 p.m. for $20 per person.

Entertainment in the band shell includes Down Home Country Cloggers at 5:15 p.m., followed by Center Stage Dance Studio at 6:15 p.m. and Hot Country Liners at 7:30 p.m. At the beer tent, Impact will perform from 8 to 10:30 p.m., and evening entertainment at the band shell will be Roadrunners.

On Saturday, July 15, the annual fishing derby sponsored by the Jolly Boys of Williamsville and the Old Home Days Committee will be held from 9 a.m. to noon. The derby includes displays, demonstrations and instruction, courtesy of the Niagara Musky Association.
