Family activities planned

Friday Night Family Flicks has begun at the Clearfield Community Center, 730 Hopkins Road. Movies are free, start at 9 p.m., and are played outside on an inflatable screen. Dates and films include: July 14, “Lego Batman Movie”; July 21, “Sing”; July 28, “Power Rangers”; Aug. 4, “Moana” at Willow Ridge Park; Aug. 11, “Pete’s Dragon”; Aug. 18, “Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them”; and Aug. 25, “Storks.”

Free Outdoor Summer Concert Series will run until Aug. 16. Performances are held at 7 p.m. Wednesdays in the amphitheater at Bassett Park, 359 Klein Road. Performances include: July 12, Bobby Militello, jazz; July 19, Beatlemagic, tribute to the Beatles; July 26, American Legion Band of the Tonawandas, patriotic; Aug. 2, Friends of Harmony, barbershop; Aug. 9, Queen City Swing, big band; and Aug. 16, McCarthyizm, Celtic rock.

Playground programs will run until Aug. 11. Amherst Youth and Recreation staff will be at each site with games, crafts and more. The program is free. To register, visit www.amherstyouthandrec.org.

Sports clinics for children ages 6 through 13 have begun for this summer. The weekly half-day morning and afternoon clinics are offered at the Clearfield Community Center and North Amherst Recreation Center. Clinics include baseball, soccer, volleyball, flag football, basketball, gatorball and floor hockey. Clinics are open to children of all ability levels. The cost is $20 per child, per session. Children’s swim lessons, tennis and archery have begun at the Clearfield Community Center and North Forest pools. Swim lessons are for all ability levels. Tennis lessons, drills and games for children through adults are offered at six courts throughout Amherst. Beginner and intermediate archery for children is also offered this summer. A summer book club will start in July. The club is open to town residents who will be in fourth through sixth grade at the start of the 2017 school year. Participants must register by July 18. To register, visit www.amherstyouthandrec.org.

Ready-Set-Go Story and Craft Time will run until Aug. 10. The program will take place from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. Mondays at North Forest Park and Thursdays at the Clearfield Community Center. The Youth and Recreation Department will provide a series of story times and crafts. The cost is free. To register, visit www.amherstyouthandrec.org.

Horseshoe pitching for ages 14 and up will be held from 2:30 to 3:30 p.m. Monday through Friday beginning July 17 and running until Aug. 4 at North Forest Park and Pool, 85 N. Forest Road.
