Heathwood to hold book sale
Heathwood Assisted Living will be holding a book sale featuring various genres of hard cover and paperback books from noon to 3 p.m. Thursday, March 16 and from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Friday, March 17, at its assisted living facility, 815 Hopkins Road in Williamsville. All books are 25 cents and proceeds will benefit Heathwood’s wellness programs. Donations of books are appreciated up until day of event by contacting Jim Coats, wellness manager, at 688-0111.
Jewish film festival begins March 17
The 32nd annual Buffalo International Jewish Film Festival will be showing films from March 17 to 23 at Amherst Dipson Theatre, 3500 Main St. The festival will present 13 award-winning and critically acclaimed films from around the world including Canada, France, Germany, Israel, the United Kingdom and the United States. General tickets are $10 and children ages 18 and under are free. They may be purchased in advance at either JCC member services desk, online at www.bi jff.com or at the theatre door half hour prior to each film.
Sewing guild to create service project
Members and guests will meet for a sewing community service project at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, March 22, at St. Peter’s Episcopal Church, 205 Longmeadow Road, Eggertsville. Bring a sewing machine or serger with some neutral-colored thread, bobbins and scissors. Fabric kits will be provided to make pillowcases and draw-string bags for toiletries that will be donated to people in need through the Family Justice Center and Salvation Army.
St. Mary’s to hold wine pairing event
St. Mary’s in Swormville will hold their annual wine pairing event from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Saturday, March 25 in the Parish Center. The event features premium Finger Lake wines from Eagle Crest and O-Neh-Da Vineyards, and pairings will be from Amici Restorante, Cornerstone Bar & Grill, Falletta’s, Genevieve’s Cheesecakes, Schnitzel & Co., Campobello’s Cucina Italiana, Salvatore’s and more. Tickets are $25 and are available at the rectory, 6919 Transit Road, or by calling Janice O’Brien at 688-9380, ext. 41.
