Patrick A. Higgins, human resources director
Mr. Higgins was born in Toledo, Ohio, and moved to Buffalo in 1939. He attended Amherst Central High School where he met his future wife, Gloria Moore. His senior year was spent at the Phillips Exeter Academy in New Hampshire where he graduated in 1942. Mr. Higgins went on to attend Williams College in Massachusetts where he played halfback on the football team.
He joined the Marine Corps during World War II and served in the Pacific and Okinawa. In 1948, he signed a contract to play with the Los Angeles Rams but soon after decided to return to Buffalo to pursue a career in business.
Mr. Higgins joined Buffalo Forge in 1976 and worked as director of human resources until his retirement. He served as chairman of the American Foundrymen’s Society of WNY and president of the Industrial Relations Association of WNY. He also was vice president of the Industrial and Public Service Division of the Red Cross Fund Campaign.
Mr. Higgins is survived by four children, Sandra, Sharon, Susan and Shelley; four siblings, Lois, Margaret, Eileen and Arthur; seven grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. In addition to his wife of 65 years, he was preceded in death by one child, Patrick; one grandchild; and three siblings, Carol, Jean and Ruth.
A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, March 25, at Amherst Community Church, 77 Washington Highway, Snyder. Arrangements were made by the Dengler, Roberts, Perna Funeral Home.
