YMCA’s annual Zumbathon set for Feb. 17

The Independent Health Family Branch YMCA will host its fifth annual Zumbathon from 6:30 to 9 p.m. Friday, Feb. 17, in support of the YMCA’s 2017 annual campaign.

The event will take place at the YMCA branch, 150 Tech Drive, Amherst.

According to a press release, the family friendly event includes high-energy music, fitness and fun in support of the YMCA’s charitable mission.

The Oasis Dance Center will present belly dancing demonstrations from 6:30 to 7 p.m., followed by a Zumbathon led by YMCA instructors.

The release further stated that children ages 10 and older are welcome to participate, and a donation of $20 is asked of adult guests. There also will be a basket raffle and door prizes during the event.

Funds raised during the event help support the YMCA. The campaign runs through April 6 and seeks to grow the branch’s outreach and impact by raising $130,000.

The event organizers encourage the community to attend the Zumbathon, which the press release said provides great health benefits while giving back to children and families in need.

“It makes everyone feel good to know they are not only helping a child attend camp or an adult learn about disease prevention, but that they’re also making an impact on their personal fitness,” Katarina Manuse, senior program director for the Independent Health Family Branch YMCA, said in the release.
