“We saw that there was a clientele that wanted rentals of higher end cars,” Straus said. “We saw the potential and thought why couldn’t this work in Buffalo?”

As Redline Rentals of Buffalo, the business rents three main high-end vehicles: a Porsche 911 Turbo Cabriolet, Chevrolet Corvette Grand Sport and a Dodge Challenger. The Porsche model rented by Redline Rentals is one of only 300 that were produced by the auto company.

“When building our fleet, we took our knowledge and decided what the best cars would be for our business,” Bona said. “We also wanted to have vehicles that could be rented at an affordable price for people in Buffalo.”

Straus said he and Bona “grew up in the car world” and enjoy classic vehicles, sports cars and motorcycles in their spare time.

“We’re car guys at heart. We just like to have fun and enjoy what cars can offer,” he said.

Beginning in July 2013, Strauss and Bona worked to create a business plan and decided on the name, which is derived from the red line in a vehicle’s gauges, such as the tachometer, which measures the revolutions per minute of an engine.

“We tossed around a few ideas, and we really wanted a name that would keep things simple,” Bona said. “We chose ‘Redline’ because it’s a great name and extra marketing tool.”

Straus said that by April the business was ready to rent out its newly purchased vehicles. He said the high-end vehicles were easy to acquire, however, it was nearly a yearlong process to get the cars properly insured for the business.

By May, Bona said Redline had its first customers renting vehicles. He said potential customers can set up a consultation with the business to address specific needs in renting a high-performance vehicle.

“The first thing we really want to do when renting is find out what a customer really wants to use the car for, whether it’s for joyriding or going to a special event in the area,” Straus said. “We want to meet with people and address their needs. We can even get a car to wherever they need it — even if it’s out of Buffalo.”

Straus said that while Redline has specific rental plans, it is possible for a plan to be negotiable based on how the customer wants to use a vehicle. Each plan offers the use of a vehicle for up to 100 miles per day. Customers can save on per-day rental fees through multi-day and weekday reservations.

Renters must be at least 25 years old, be in possession of a valid U.S. driver’s license and have a clean driving record. Also required is a reservation deposit of $100 and a major credit card.

Straus said Redline will rent vehicles in the spring, summer and fall. He added that rentals can be reserved until the colder weather arrives, but there is no “hard stop point” for renting.

“These cars are sports cars at heart,” Bona said. “The goal is to preserve the cars. Being out in the snow and salt could really harm the car.”

Straus said he wants customers to be happy in a vehicle they rent so they “have the best experience possible.”

“People shouldn’t hesitate to call and ask us for a quote,” he said. “Discounts may even be available. We give discounts to police, members of the military, veterans and firefighters.”

Beginning in September, Redline Rentals will house its rental vehicles in a location in Kenmore.
