Western New York Dental Group offers convenience for patients
The company was established in 1972 when two dental school classmates, Drs. Roland Bergler and Robert Gianadda, opened a practice together.
Forty years later, Western New York Dental’s sphere of influence stretches throughout 13 offices. The private, locally owned business comprises 15 partners who are practicing dentists.
The practice has two locations in the City of Buffalo in addition to sites in Depew, West Seneca, Orchard Park and Amherst, the latter at 1020 Youngs Road near Sheridan Drive.
“We have nearly 400 employees in the Buffalo and Rochester areas,” said Dr. Michael Ehlers, the president of the partnered group.
Ehlers, a graduate of the University at Buffalo School of Dentistry, said Bergler and Gianadda assisted him when he began his practice.
“They were my mentors early in my career,” he said. “I have had a great relationship with our founding fathers over the years.”
Ehlers, who practices at the group’s office in Boston, said each location was developed to fit each community’s style.
“It helps make our practice unique,” he said. “We make sure everyone is comfortable at each office, and all are designed differently.”
He said that beginning this year, the practice will make it easier for patients by having all dental records transferred to a digital database accessible to each dentist who is a member of the group.
Ehlers said that although the digital transference of records is mandated by the federal government, the practice is using a program that is the most convenient for staff and patients.
“Now we will be able to pull the records up right away,” he said. “We will have it all connected and ready for us to go this year.”
Ehlers also said the practice has been accredited by the Accreditation Association for Ambulatory Health Care Inc. for the past eight years.
Accreditation requires independent appraisers to review all of the practice’s records to determine that the group is providing the highest standard of quality.
“It is something we volunteer to do,” he said. “We do it because it keeps our systems going and it sets the bar for us,” Ehlers said.
Linda Maraszek, public relations coordinator for the practice, said Western New York Dental also conducts health presentations throughout area school districts, visits public health fairs and volunteers to assist at many community events.
She said the practice also participates with many insurance plans that are offered in the Buffalo and Rochester regions.
Ehlers added that the practice works closely with the University at Buffalo and has had a number of former dental students join the group.
“We really have a great working relationship with the University at Buffalo,” he said. “We are very involved in the local community of dentistry.”
Maraszek said the practice is also looking forward to relocating its current Blasdell office, from 3990 to 3860 McKinley Parkway within the next several weeks.
Although the hours of operation vary slightly from office to office, Western New York Dental Group features extended hours at most locations on weekdays. Ehlers said most of the offices are also open half-days on Saturdays.
“The whole basis of that is to make it convenient for people,” he said.
