Tree Board thanks event volunteers

On behalf of the Village of Williamsville Tree Board, we would like to thank the many volunteers who unselfishly contributed their time and energy to the most successful tree-planting event to date conducted in the village on Nov. 6.

More than 110 bare-root trees were planted throughout the village in the rights of way in front of homes and throughout the village parks. The Tree Board wishes to publicly acknowledge the assistance provided by Boy Scout Troop 457, under the competent direction of Pat Crowley, who makes sure his Scouts are there twice a year.

Fueling the effort is Coffee Culture, a model corporate citizen that always answers the call by donating coffee, hot chocolate and an endless supply of baked goods for the volunteers.

We would also like to thank the many residents who acted as great “tree parents” by maintaining the water levels in the “gator bags” on the trees that were planted this past spring. This contributed to the very high survival rate of those trees.

We encourage residents to not give up on any questionable-looking tree due to the fact that, in certain situations, it may take a tree some time to establish itself. Our goal is to give every tree we plant a fighting chance, but at the same time be reasonable about replacing the ones that are not making it.

Residents interested in having a tree planted in the right of way at their address can obtain a tree request form at Village Hall or contact Village Hall at 632-4120.
