Four dirt bikes taken from home

A resident on Sweet Home Road reported that four dirt bikes were taken from a detached garage sometime between Saturday evening and 11:50 a.m. Sunday.

Tire tracks showed the bikes were driven through the owner’s backyard. The larceny is estimated at $6,000.

Amherst police are continuing to investigate the burglary, in addition to an attempted burglary reported a few houses away.

The homeowners at the second residence reported the damage at 10 p.m. Sunday. Evidence suggests someone was trying to kick in the side door.

Police believe the incidents occurred around the same time as the dirt bike burglary.

“It seems like a good possibility; it’s rare to have two burglary attempts,” Assistant Chief Tim Green said about the two incidents being connected.

The homes are located between Maple Road and Sheridan Drive.
