July Fourth celebration planned at UB

The Town of Amherst Recreation Department will once again hold its Independence Day celebration at the University at Buffalo.

Events will be held Saturday, July 4, at UB's North Campus. Attendees gather around Lake LaSalle and the area around Baird Point. The concert stage is located in the bookstore parking lot near the intersection of Lee and White roads.

Bring chairs and blankets to sit on the hill. Coolers are allowed.

The evening will start with the Billy McEwen Band performing at 7 p.m. followed by the Erie County Wind Ensemble at 8:45 p.m.

Fireworks will follow the last concert at approximately 9:45 p.m.

This year's display will be partially choreographed to music and will be electronically fired.

The rain date is scheduled for Sunday, July 5. Open cooking, sparklers and fireworks are not permitted.

Ellicott Creek Trailway will be closed at 8:30 a.m. between St. Rita's Lane and John James Audubon. In addition, North Forest Road will be closed between John James Audubon and John Muir Road at approximately 8:45 p.m.

Following the fireworks, vehicles will be allowed to enter Flint Road only from eastbound Maple. Southbound Millersport traffic will be detoured to Hartford to Sweet Home to Maple.
