Mohan undecided on seeking second term
Kindel, Weinstein plan to run
      Three Town Board seats and the position of supervisor will be in contention this fall, and the political scene is already taking shape as candidates make their intentions known. The major question in town is whether Supervisor Satish Mohan will seek re-election. His first term will end on Dec. 31, and Mohan ran on the platform that he would serve only four years.

Board denies pay raise
      Any pay raise for the town's 20 exempt employees is on hold during contract negotiations with the local Civil Service Employees Association.

Mother killed in one-car accident on I-990
      A Lockport mother driving with her two children was killed in a one-car accident on Interstate 990 this past weekend. The Amherst Police Accident Investigation Unit was called to the scene at 8:15 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 4, on I-990 at North French Road.

Manna named deputy supervisor
ZBA, Planning Board appointments tabled
      In his second year on the Amherst Town Board, Mark Manna will serve as deputy supervisor. Supervisor Satish Mohan announced the appointment during Monday's reorganization meeting. "He is independent-minded and doesn't mind speaking what his heart says," Mohan said. "We look for such people to be on the council.

Man attacked for money on Windermere
      Amherst police are seeking four or five males suspected of robbing a man Monday evening. According to Assistant Chief Timothy Green, the 24-year-old male victim was walking on Windermere Boulevard at 6:50 p.m. when he was approached by four or five black males.

      The Town of Amherst Highway Department has started picking up Christmas trees and will continue through Jan. 23. After that, tree pickup will be handled through Refuse Control. For information, contact the Amherst Highway Department at 631-7117.

Harold G. Bergwall, of Amherst, died Wednesday, Dec. 10, 2008. Born Dec. 30, 1924, in Jamestown, he attended Bennett High School and served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He entered Brown University in 1946, where he met his wife of 57 years, Arlene (nee Reed). The couple graduated in 1950 and were married a year later. More...
