Lorraine J. Lynn, community service worker
Lorraine Jean Lynn, 87, a longtime resident of Williamsville, died Saturday, May 31, 2008, in the Center for Hospice & Palliative Care, Cheektowaga.

Born Lorraine Jean Attea in Buffalo, she began her career of service after she graduated from D'Youville College in 1942 with a degree in sociology. She then received a certificate in social work from the University of Buffalo and became a careworker for Catholic Charities.

Mrs. Lynn served on the Catholic Charities Advisory Board for five years, two as chairwoman; was a chairwoman of the executive board of Kevin Guest House; volunteered at Roswell Park; and served on D'Youville's Alumni Association board of directors for more than 10 years.

In 1974, she received the Anne Lum Distinguished Alumnus Award from D'Youville, an award given annually to past graduates for professional achievement and service to the community and college.

Mrs. Lynn enjoyed skiing and was a member of Brookfield Country Club where she served as president of the Women's Association.

She is survived by her husband of 62 years, Ferdinand; two sons, Robert and Richard; three daughters, Cheryl Merrifield-Radecki, Lori Nicholson and Mary Jewett; 10 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Lynn was predeceased by her daughter Leslie and by a great- granddaughter.

A Mass of Christian Burial was held Tuesday, June 3, at SS. Peter and Paul Church, Williamsville.
