Jon Powers, endorsed Democratic candidate in New York's 26th Congressional District, received an early endorsement from the New York State AFL-CIO. The two and a half million member labor coalition normally decides on an endorsement at its constitutional or political conventions held biennially in August, but the state organization came out early to show its backing of Powers. The New York State AFL-CIO represents approximately 111,000 working men and women in the district.

Sen. Mary Lou Rath, R-Amherst, received the Igniting Ideas Award at the University at Buffalo's Business Partners Day, held on June 6. She was recognized for her leadership in supporting UB and its economic development initiatives in WNY.
