Community Briefs George F. Rand IV of Amherst has been named honorary Western New York chair of the North Tonawanda History Museum's Lumber City History Center Committee. He is a descendant of Calvin Gordon Rand and Almira Hershey Long Rand, whose three sons played a significant role in the business and civic history of North Tonawanda. In the History Museum's first full-length book on the history of North Tonawanda, "North Tonawanda: The Lumber City," the Rand family is the subject of a full chapter and the first chapter in the portion dedicated to prominent individuals and families of the 19th and 20th centuries. Tony Coppola of Williamsville received the George L. Wessel Labor Volunteer of the Year Award from the United Way. He was recognized on June 3 during the Volunteer Lovefest Awards Breakfast. He is the business manager for International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Local 41. |
