Spring art show

features local artists

The Niagara Frontier Watercolor Society will hold its Spring Show from May 12 through June 6, at Vern Stein Art and Frame, 5747 Main St., near Evans Street, Williamsville. college workshop

The Amherst John James Audubon Library will host a college planning workshop at 6:30 p.m. May 15. Everything students and parents need to know is discussed in this two-hour comprehensive workshop on how to prepare for college success. Topics will include how to maximize financial aid, getting grants and scholarships, the college application process, determining affordability, college and major selection, promoting your student athlete and much more. The third annual Robert E. Valenti scholarship benefit will be held from 5 to 11 p.m. Friday, May 16, at George F. Lamm Post, 962 Wehrle Drive, near Cayuga Road. Valenti passed away in 1996 at the age of 27, from a brain aneurysm. Tickets are $25 and can be purchased at the door. Call 631-5921.

Celebration will honor

Israel's independence

"Israel at 60 - A Celebration of Culture" will be held at 7 p.m. Saturday, May 17, at Temple Beth Am, 4660 Sheridan Drive. This month marks the 60th anniversary of Israel's independence. The event includes food, art displays and videos. There will also be live performances of Israeli music, dance, storytelling, poetry reading and a bazaar of Israeli items. Admission is free. The Lou Gehrig Youth Baseball and Softball will hold a Chiavetta's chicken dinner from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday, May 18, at the Lou Gehrig Complex at the corner of Smith and Dann roads in East Amherst. ElderWood offering

support group

ElderWood Health Care at Wedgewood, 4459 Bailey Ave., Eggertsville, will host its Alzheimer's Support Group at 2 p.m. Tuesday, May 20. Meetings are held the third Tuesday of every month. The Alzheimer's Support Group is open to all members of the community who have a family member affected by Alzheimer's, are caring for someone with the disease or whose lives are otherwise touched by a person with memory impairment. Caregiver group meeting

set for May 20

The Men's Caregiver Group, sponsored by the Alzheimer's Association of WNY, will meet at 7 p.m., Tuesday, May 20, and Wednesday, June 4, in the private dining room at ElderWood Village at Glenwood, 5271 Main Street, near Union Road, Williamsville. The group meets the first Wednesday and third Tuesday of every month and provides support, networking and camaraderie for men with a loved one suffering from Alzheimer's disease and other forms of dementia. Center for Inquiry hosts

movie night

The Center for Inquiry will show the film Stolen Summer at 7 p.m. Wednesday, May 21. The film features the story of a young Catholic boy, Peter O'Malley, who is on a quest to help a dying Jewish friend, Danny Jacobsen, get into heaven. The event is free and open to the public. Improv group to perform

Christ the King offers

A Bereavement Support Group, sponsored by Christ the King Bereavement Committee, in Snyder, is offering a program for all persons grieving the loss of a loved one.
