SSPP wins opener by shutout

SS. Peter & Paul's softball team opened its season in the Monsignor Bernardo Softball League with an 18-0 shutout over St. Mary's of Swormville.

Pitcher Michelle Haumesser started and recorded five strikeouts in three innings. Victoria Mendiola pitched the final two innings to hold the shutout.

Offensively, the team was led by Kathleen Ruggiero (scored four runs on four hits), Michelle Haumesser (three hits), Clare Costello (two doubles) and Claire Haumesser, Colleen Kenney, Alyse Bradley, Laura Galante and Victoria Mendiola (two hits each).

SS Peter & Paul (Williamsville) 22,

Our Lady of Pompeii, 2

In its first home game at the South Long diamond, SS. Peter & Paul defeated Our Lady of Pompeii, 22-2.

Hollie Canacari, Kathleen Ruggiero, Claire Haumesser, Michelle Haumesser, Tori Mendiola, Jessica Lynett, Christine Colson, Alyse Bradley, and Rachael Nasca each had two hits for the Knights.

The defense was solid behind the pitching of Michelle Haumesser and Tori Mendiola, who recorded 10 strikeouts over five innings.

SS. Peter & Paul (Williamsville) 13,

St. Benedict 0

Victoria Mendiola started on the mound for the Knights and recorded seven strikeouts in three innings while Michelle Haumesser completed the game with five strikeouts over the last two innings as the SS. Peter & Paul Knights defeated St. Benedict, 13-0.

Kathleen Ruggiero and Olivia Bianco each had a double and two singles to lead the Knights' offensive attack. Hollie Canacari, Julie Roehmholdt, Claire Haumesser, Laura Galante and Colleen Kenney also added singles.
