'Major' Red Sox down Royals, 9-5 The "Major" Red Sox came away with a 9-5 victory in a seesaw battle against the Royals. The Red Sox were led defensively by pitcher Matthew Macomber. In his pitching debut, Macomber struck out two and was instrumental in four put-outs to first baseman Matt LaDuca. The Red Sox' strong pitching continued when Nick Swain took the mound and closed the game with four strikeouts. Swain also contributed offensively with a triple. Doubles were hit by Nolan Burch, Alex Hidalgo and Macomber. Royals' pitchers Nick Eberhard and Brendan Chambers kept it close until the final innings. 'Major East' Royals 7, Yankees 6 The "Major East" Royals got all their runs in the first two innings to outlast the Yankees, 7-6. Ryan Woods (double) and Ryan Czerwinski plated two runs in the first inning. John Simonian's single to left center scored Alex Senia and Nick Molnar. Dan Lumadue's sacrifice grounder scored Simonian. Rich Procknal, Brett Baker and Ryan Siefried (two hits each) and Justin Beck (two hits, double) led the Yankees. The Royals' Czerwinski made another play at short for the out. Molnar threw out a runner from his knees at third. Justin Downey made a great running catch in the outfield. Travel league baseball Mathewson McCarthy Marines 11U 11, Elma Elite 6 The Mathewson McCarthy Marine 11U Travel Team improved to 2-1 as they defeated Elma Elite, 11-6, in a rain-shortened game. Matt Ruggeiro and Phil Gorney combined to calm the big bats of Elma. The Marines overcame a four-run deficit to explode for six in the second and four in the third. Nick Courtney, Sam Berke and Jimmy Honsberger hit back-to-back-to-back triples in the second followed by a two-RBI single by Ruggeiro. Richard Patti and Nolan Burch each chipped in hits. |
