South modified girls lacrosse open with 3-2 record

The Williamsville South modified girls lacrosse team opened the season with victories over Springville, 9-2, and West Seneca, 9-8.

South 9, Springville 2

Seventh-grader Alyssa Ferenczy scored the first goal of the season 1:34 into the Springville game.

Eighth-graders Kevinah Dargan, Kara Pomeroy and Alexa Dash each scored two goals for South. Cassandra Hopkins and Hannah Mong also scored.

Excellent defense was played by Lisanne Sprague and seventh grader Rachel Utech. Goalie Joslin Downey made eight saves.

South 9, West Seneca 8 Alyssa Ferenczy scored first. Kevinah Dargan scored a hat trick. Anna Quattro played in goal in the first half; Joslin Downey played in the second half. Kara Pomeroy scored early and the final goal.

Downey, Hannah Mong and Alexa Dash each added a goal. Erin Leising and Lisanne Sprague were key defenders.

Hamburg 15, South 5

Kara Pomeroy scored two goals. Tiffany Pope, Kevinah Dargan and Hannah Mong each scored once.

South 15, Lake Shore 7

Kevinah Dargan, Kara Pomeroy and Joslin Downey each scored hat tricks.

Seventh-grader Rachel Utech scored her first goal. Alexa Dash, Hannah Mong, Cassandra Hopkins and Alyssa Ferenczy each scored for South. Anna Quattro and Joslin Downey split time in goal.

Roni Patel and Maggie Maitin and Lisanne Sprague were key defenders.

Iroquois 13, South 7

South trailed 6-4 at halftime, but Iroquois came on strong in the second half. Cassandra Hopkins, Alexa Dash, Kevinah Dargan and Kara Pomeroy each had a hat trick.

Seventh-graders working hard include Carly Butt, Claire Kreuz, Julia Hammerl, Lindsey Baldwin, Kelly Brownell and Katherine Walhgren. New eighth-grade players include Suzie Frank, Cassidy Strong, Tiffany Pope, Roni Patel and Erin Leising.
