Lady Tigers' track beat crosstown rival The Amherst Central outdoor girls track team recorded a huge win over crosstown rival Williamsville South, 76-65, last Tuesday at Amherst. The Lady Tigers started out the meet with a win in the 4x800-meter relay (Sarah Lasker, Victoria Sosnowski, Katie Smith and Brenna Symoniak). Ashley Fields and Allison Rogers followed with a first and second in the 100-meter dash in 12.2 and 12.3, respectively. Fields and Rogers also went 1-2 in the 200 in 25.0 and 25.7. Symoniak finished first and Alexandra Pace took second in the 1500 in 5:08 and 5:20, respectively. Rogers won the open 400 (101.1). Mikaela Maddock finished third in the 400 hurdles. Symoniak and Sosnowski went 1-2 in the 3000 in 11:03.4 and 12:03.3, respectively. Hannah Larson and Rebekah Larson took first and second in the pole vault with heights of 7-0 and 6-0. Olivia May and Annalise Plovino finished first and second in the triple jump with leaps of 30-7 and 30.5, respectively. "It was a great overall performance as many different athletes got points to make it a team win," said Amherst coach Dan Tryon. South also posted a lot of good places and times. Allie VanBuren won the 400 hurdles in a sectional and personal best time of 64.3. She also took third in the 200 dash (25.9). Amanda Breymeier won the 800 (2:29.4) and high jump (5-4, top jump in Western New York) and took second in the 400 (63.7). Jennifer Lopez won the shot put (32-0) and discus (97-5.5). Kailyn Arcury high jumped 4-10 for second and took third in the pole vault (6-0). Lindsey Porter tripled jumped 29-9.5 for third. Sara Orf came in third in the discus (69-10). In the 400, Porter placed third (66.5), Bethany Syracuse took fourth (66.5) and Kirsten Sciandra ran a personal best (72.2). In the 400 hurdles, Cassiana Hyppolite took second (1:15.6) and Rachael Di Vita ran a 1:22.6. Colleen Hurtubise placed third in the 3000 (12:29.2). Erin Moore also ran the 3000. Kristina Arcury ran a personal best 27.4 in the 200 for fourth. Charlie and Ellie Falletta also ran the 200. The 4x400 relay of MC Aungst, Syracuse, Hyppolite and Porter won in 4:29. The 4x100 relay of Charlie and Ellie Falletta and Kailyn and Kristina Arcury took second in 53.7. Amherst and South each fared well in separate invites on Saturday. Amherst took fifth at Spartan Team Challenge at Starpoint High School. South placed second with 75 points at the Holland Tulip Festival Invitational at Holland High School. Fields and Gross won the 100 (25.66) and 200 (45.83) dashes. Symoniak and Pace finished overall in the 1500 (10:17:27) and Symoniak and Diane Herzog won the 3000 (22:49.78). May and Kate Shuglina finished sixth in the triple jump. VanBuren won the 200 (personal best 25.5), 100 hurdles (14.6) and 400 hurdles (1:04.8) to lead the Lady Billies at Holland. Other winners for South were Kailyn Arcury in the 100 dash (13.1) and long jump (15-4.5), Breymeier in the 800 (2:27.2) and high jump (5-1) and Lopez in the discus (86-1). Hyppolite, Syracuse, Breymeier and VanBuren won the 4x400 relay in 4:18.2. It's one of the top times in the section. The 4x200 relay of Charlie Falletta, Syracuse, Hyppolite and Kristina Arcury placed second in 1:56.7. The 4x800 relay of Jenny Mooney, Aungst, Erin Ballou and Laura Johnston came in second. The 4x100 relay of Aungst, Ballou, Lopez and Charlie Falletta placed second in 56.5. Second place winners went to Kailyn Arcury in the 100 hurdles (15.9), Breymeier in the long jump (14-10) and Lopez in the shot put (29-3.5) and discus (86-1). Third place winners went to Hyppolite (400), Charlie Falletta (personal best 28.8 in 200), Johnston (3:10.9, 3000) and Sarah Buch (discus, 89-0). Fourth place winners went to Sciandra (400), Syracuse (400 hurdles, personal best 1:15.6), Hyppolite (14-5), Kailyn Arcury (high jump, 4-8) and Sara Orf (shot put, 21-1.5; discus, 65-.25). Charlie Falletta ran a 14.5 in the 100 to take fifth. Santana Coon ran a 14:17.8 in the 3000. South hosted Starpoint on Tuesday but the result was unavailable before The Bee went to press. They will run in the Joe Paterniti Memorial Track and Field Classic on Saturday at Strider Field in Jamestown. |
