Sacred Heart loses program's first overtime game Sacred Heart's girls lacrosse team has played in a number of different kinds of games in its short five-year history but never a game that went to overtime. That all changed last week as the Sharks fell to Mt. Mercy 12-11 in overtime last Thursday at the University at Buffalo's Rotary Field. "The girls played their hearts out," said Sacred Heart coach Emily Canty. "They transitioned the ball beautifully. They dominated ground balls and faceoffs won, which is always a good indicator you're going to win the game. We should have won it." Canty said Mercy tied the game with one second left in regulation, then won it overtime. Mary Canty, who leads the team with 19 goals, scored four times. Madeline Bartels and Monique Mattes each scored twice. Liz Briody, Tori Kreuz, Emily Tevins and Natalie Wasliewski each scored once. It was Kreuz's first career goal. Goalie Cheslea Taylor made 11 saves. Coach Canty lauded the defensive work all season of Alex Femia. Sacred Heart (1-5) played Nardin on Tuesday but the result was unavailable before The Bee went to press. |
