Man reports attempted larceny of marijuana plants

(Editors note: The Bee's police blotter is a sampling of unusual, sometimes humorous calls received by the police department. It is not intended to be a complete record of all incidents reported.)

Friday, May 2

• Police were called to Hampton Hill Drive where a man reported that he was walking across the street when a driver in a sport utility vehicle flagged him to cross, then gunned his vehicle, hitting the complainant's left foot and ankle. The call resulted in one arrest for falsely reporting an accident.

• A North Bailey Avenue resident complained that there were dog droppings left on the porch.

• A person called from Glen Avenue to report that he was riding his bike and was cut off by a taxi and felt threatened.

• A shoe store on Niagara Falls Boulevard reported larceny. The suspect took off, barefoot, toward the rear of the plaza. He was taken into custody.

Saturday, May 3

• A group of youths was reportedly trying to get gas out of a car on West Royal Parkway.

• A Millbrooke Court resident called to report a 3 1/2-foot snake in the yard, then called to cancel the report.

• A Batavia Drive resident complained that youths were playing hockey in the street, and when the puck lands on his grass they damage his lawn with their skates.

Sunday, May 4

• A South Youngs Road resident reported that $200 was stolen from the complainant's purse by a family who bought her furniture the day before.

• A Waxwing Lane resident complained that her neighbor was cutting his lawn and ramming his lawnmower into her fence. A verbal argument ensued, and they were separated. The man was warned that if his comments continued he would be arrested.

• Several complaints were made about ducks being stuck in a sewer on Niagara Falls Boulevard. A complainant calling for the second time said the mother duck was very irate. Police responded and reunited the mom and her 11 ducklings.

Monday, May 5

• Reckless operation of a vehicle was reported on Maple Road. An elderly man driving a white limo was said to be all over the roadway.

• A complaint was made about a boy on top of a swing set on Main Street. He and his parents have been told before he is not allowed on the school's property.

• Police were called about an issue between a 16-year-old boy and his mother. He was being abusive and said he was upset because his mom wouldn't go buy him cigarettes.

Tuesday, May 6

• An ongoing problem was reported on Fairways Boulevard - a young male was riding a scooter up and down the street, and on the sidewalk.

• A woman complained that while her car was parked in a lot on Transit Road someone put gum and chocolate on it. The incident was reportedly caught on video.

Wednesday, May 7 • EMS assistance was needed at Erie Community College when a person fell after drywall fell on them.

• A woman needed assistance on Transit Road after locking her 7-month-old son inside the car. The boy was awake and moving around. She was assisted.

• An employee of a hair salon on Transit Road complained that a customer spit on his face and verbally berated him. The subject had reportedly been a problem before.

• A Deville Circle resident called police when she was doing laundry and couldn't get the water to turn off. It was going all over the room from behind the washing machine. Patrol assisted with turning the water off, and the woman called a plumber.

Thursday, May 8

• Police were called by an Amberwood Drive resident, who reported that she thinks her paper box was intentionally opened so her newspaper would get wet. The paper deliveryman was questioned and said he was pretty sure that he shut the box. The resident wanted the complaint recorded because she feels harassed.

• A grocery store on Alberta Drive reported that a basket full of baby formula had been stolen.

• Police were called by an employee at an optical company on Main Street because a man with a crewcut stole five to six pairs of designer frames.

• A man from an apartment on Amherst Manor Drive reported that he had pot plants growing in his yard and men from the apartment complex attempted to steal them. The complainant confronted them, and they came back and pulled a knife on the complainant.
