Opera-Lytes presents 'The Mikado'

Members of the Opera-Lytes, affiliated with Amherst Community Church, are taking the stage at Alleyway Theatre during the production of Gilbert and Sullivan's "The Mikado."

Opening early this month, the operetta will have three more performances: 8 p.m. May 16 and 17 and 2 p.m. May 18. Tickets are $20 and may be reserved by calling 837-3440. Group rates are available. For more information, visit www.operalytes.com.

"The Mikado" features some Gilbert and Sullivan melodies, including "A Wandering Minstrel I," "Three Little Maids from School" and the famous "little list" song, in which the Lord High Executioner enumerates the social nuisances who merit decapitation.

Cast members include choristers Mel Churchill of Snyder, Patrick Creaven of Amherst, Michele Diegelman of Amherst, Ray Herman of Williamsville, and Sharon and Dave Szczudlik of Amherst.
