Getzville Post Office to host passport fairs for summer travelers

Those in need of a passport for summer sea or land travel are encouraged to hurry. The processing time of a passport application is approximately four to six weeks.

The U.S. Postal Service has scheduled passport fairs from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, May 14, and Thursday, May 15, at the Getzville Post Office, 2655 Millersport Highway.

Additional hours make it convenient to apply for children's passports since both parents need to be present.

The cost for an adult passport book is $100; the passport card is $45. Both are good for 10 years. If an adult already has a valid passport book, the cost of obtaining a passport card is $20. For children, 16 and younger, the passport book is $85; the passport card is $35. Both are valid for five years.

The passport book is valid for all international travel. The passport card is valid only for land and sea crossings between the U.S. and Canada, Mexico, Bermuda, and the Caribbean.

A special fair discount on passport photos will be offered. The normal photo price is $15; for these events, the photo price will be $10.

Visit www.travel.state.gov to get the list of required documents and a printout of the passport application. A pre-completed passport application expedites the process when the customer gets to the Post Office.
