Roseanne Stephan of the American Heart Association/ American Stroke Association Buffalo/Niagara Chapter recently traveled to Dallas to accept the agency's coveted Rome Betts Award. Recognizing outstanding field staffers who exemplify consistent high performance in their area, the award was given to only two Cultural Health Initiatives staff across the country. Stephan received the designation in recognition of her work to build strategic partnerships and health care alliances in Western New York for support around the American Heart Association's Power to End Stroke campaign.

St John's Lutheran Home for Children presented the first Edward Kinkel Scholarship on April 4 to Rachel Nelson of Akron. The scholarship was established in 2007 to honor deceased past president Ed Kinkel, formerly of Amherst.
