      Alex G. Schmidt, 73, of Amherst died Wednesday, May 7, 2008, after a lengthy battle with cancer. Born in Buffalo, Mr. Schmidt attended Burgard High School and the University of Buffalo School of Business. He served in the U.S. Navy in the late 1950s.

      Judith Goldberg Alcabes of Williamsville, wife of Isaac Alcabes and the late Lawrence E. Goldberg died on May 10, 2008, after a three-year battle with cancer. She is survived by her daughter, Susan Goldberg Pardo and son, Robert Goldberg; five grandchildren; and sister, Carol Kleban.

Ruth Mary Hoffman, Amherst resident
      Ruth Mary Hoffman of Amherst died Thursday, Feb. 14, 2008. She was the daughter of the late Christian and Anna Mary Hoffman. She is survived by many nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, May 17, at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church Chapel at Main and North streets.
